Local Philanthropy
We had a great year for philanthropy as we continued some old traditions and explored some new ways of connecting with and helping our community. For 2024-2025, we look forward continuing this valuable and meaningful work. This fall, we will be participating in the fundraiser walk for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)!

2022 - 2023 Philanthropy Recap
Greater Cleveland NAMI Walk
We started off with a bang in September, raising $1,750 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and participating in the NAMI Greater Cleveland walk. NAMI is a leading mental health organization that "works to educate, support, advocate, listen and lead to improve the lives of people with mental illness and their loved ones.”
Knuth's
In November, we held our annual Knuth's Fashion Show & Fundraiser and raised $183.72 (5% of total purchases) from Knuth's purchases and $190 from the raffle - so $373.72 total for the Rose McGill Disaster Relief Fund!! We also put together a collection of clothing items to donate to the WomenSafe Resale Shoppe.
Holiday Sharing
For Holiday Sharing, we sent our recipient a $200 Amazon Gift Card along with personal notes collected at Founders Day and some “stocking stuffers” (chapstick, facemasks, etc.).
Annual Book Drive
In April, we had our annual Book Drive and Book Sorting Event at the Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank. Including a number of books on mental health themes, we collected and delivered 122 books.
Our end of the year donations totaled $300 for NAMI, $200 for the Rose McGill Disaster Relief Fund, $200 for the Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank, and $100 for Village of Healing (a local organization chosen to recognize one of our Executive Board members).
Do you have a cause near and dear to your heart? We'd love to hear about it. Please contact our Philanthropy Chairs, Laura and Tricia with any questions. We are excited to give back to our community this year and honor Kappa Kappa Gamma's commitment to philanthropy and service!
Previous Philanthropy Efforts
At the 2016 Kappa Convention, the Cleveland Alumnae Association entered the "Adelphe Silver Society" meaning that we have donated more than $50,000 to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation!
In addition to generously supporting the Foundation, we have supported many local philanthropies over the years:
- Cleveland Literacy Efforts: Our 2nd annual book drive occurred from January - March of 2017. We finished it off by joining the women of John Carroll and sorting books at the Cleveland Kids' Book Bank. Back in the spring of 2016, our association collected and donated 189 new and gently used books to donate to the RIF program and Little Free Library at Miles Park Elementary in Cleveland. Our members have also volunteered as tutors at Miles Park.
- Ronald McDonald House Pull Tab Program: We collected thousands of pop tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland in 2017. RMHC explains: "We collect aluminum pull tabs from any container (soda pop, soup, pet food, etc.) and work with a local recycler to turn those tabs into money for our Family Fund. This fund helps support the families that stay at RMH by providing meals and items for families, assistance in emergencies, and giving families special moments – like small gifts for children if they have a birthday while at the House."
- Frontline Service: Frontline is an organization based in Cuyahoga County that assists those facing trauma and distress caused by homelessness, mental illness, and violence. In the fall of 2015, our members donated nearly $600 to Frontline...but it didn't stop there. Due to the impressive couponing talent of one of our members, we were able to use that money to buy $2400 in much needed products for the shelter including diapers, baby formula, and other personal products. Check out the pictures of our donation in our Scrapbook!
- Kappa Kidney Camp: A philanthropy that is uniquely supported by Kappa chapters and alumnae associations in Ohio, the camp is a week-long experience for children from 8 to 18 years old, who are on dialysis or have had a kidney transplant. During the week, the children make lifelong friends and experience many things that they would otherwise not be able to do. Our association is pleased to sponsor a camper each year, and was happy to do so again for the summer of 2017.
